Rosebank is both a residential and commercial suburb of Johannesburg which is located to the north of the center of Johannesburg city. The mix of all things commercial and residential combined with a thriving entertainment scene makes Rosebank a unique and interesting destination for the youth, celebrities, and tourists.
Rosebank is a very small and compact suburb that also boasts the advantage of the residents and tourists being able to walk everywhere. This means that everyone can soak up the social ambiance and generally pleasant atmosphere on-route to their destination. The Gautrain station is located in Rosebank which has drawn the gaze of numerous members of the public who are looking for convenient and high-quality office spaces.
Unlike other small towns in the Gauteng province, Rosebank was not born out of the gold mining boom of the late 1880s. Rosebank was originally an Orchard farm, known as Rosehill Orchards, which was under the ownership of Mr. Lorenco. This farm dates all the way back to 1896 when it was first sold by auctioneer Richard Currie. In the 20th century, the City Council decided to change the road names of the town to the names of the fallen World War I British Admirals. Cecil Behrmann was responsible for starting the construction of Rosebank as it is known today. The construction started in the 1950s. The land was eventually sold, however, it continued to grow into the trendy and upmarket town that it is today.
Rosebank is still developing as more and more high-rise buildings are taking shape. This is due to the continued interest of forming businesses in Rosebank and the need for more residential buildings. The CBD, in particular, is attracting business interest. Rosebank Towers is the tallest building in Rosebank’s CBD, with 14 floors of lettable offices and 7 floors of parking. The State Bank of India, Nu Metro Cinema, and Total S.A. have their head offices in Rosebank.
Whether visiting for business or pleasure, Rosebank is guaranteed to have something for everyone; regardless of age or gender.
