About Kyalami & Plumbing
Kyalami is home to the Kyalami Racing Circuit in Midrand, Gauteng. The Kyalami Racing Circuit has hosted numerous racing events from the South African Grand Prix to the Grand Prix and Formula One races. It has also hosted the World Superbike Series five times and the final race of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.
Unlike most of the other towns and suburbs in Gauteng which were born out of the discovery of gold in the Gauteng Province, it is the racing circuit that was formed first and the residential areas were built around it to form the town of Kyalami.
The original circuit of Kyalami was first put to use in 1961 which continued up until the time when political sanctions were established during Apartheid which eliminated the Grand Prix after the 1985 race. Unfortunately, the original circuit was rebuilt in the 1990s which resulted in modifications that made the circuit narrow and bendy, taking away from the once fast circuit it was originally built to be.
Of the original track, Leeukop Bend, the Kink, Pit lane, the start/finish straight, Crowthorne Corner and Barbeque Bend were all eliminated and Jukskei Sweep underwent some severe adjustments. Sunset Bend, Clubhouse Bend, and the Esses took less of a beating when the modifications occurred and still remain from the original circuit. The modifications and the fact that the Kyalami Racing Circuit was a mere shadow of its former fast-track-self resulted in Formula One abandoning the circuit in 1993.
Today, the South African Lipizzaners are situated on the smallholdings of Kyalami and can be seen performing a dressage every Sunday.
The area surrounding the world-famous circuit has been developed into a residential area in recent years. The residential side of Kyalami is beautiful and boasts gorgeous cafes and restaurants. Golf enthusiasts must visit the Kyalami Country Club, regardless of age or skill level.
